BBQ BIRTHDAY PARTY

Last weekend, buat combined birthday party for Haziq & Danish, dan tumpang sekali untuk Yanti, our helper. Yummy choc cake! Yanti punya, pandan layer cake, sebab ng'gak biasa makan kek coklat.

Terperanjat beruk si Yanti, pastu tersipu-sipu tiup lilin. Kesian, budak baru 18 tahun. First time berjauhan dari family, anak manja mak pulak tu.

Ala, birthday tu alasan je untuk berkumpul and makan-makan. Main food was BBQ, and tukang bakar ni my kezen, punyalah tak senonor sibuk tunjuk perut plak. Harap-harap takde perisa tambahan dalam BBQ tu.

Anyway, yang dijemput pun, Makngah & anak-cucu, Achik & family, and my bro inlaw's sister & family. The kids had the most fun, coz Makngah brought the inflatable pool, so depa seronok mandi. Berendam sampai menggigil, still taknak keluar.

Angah had a good idea for a doorgift for the kids, we bought them towels pastu sulamkan nama masing-masing. Cool, eh?

Lepas berendam, bebudak main face painting. We also had a pinata in the shape of Nemo, saja buat seronok bebudak nak dapat extra goodies. Unfortunately cardboard yang dibuat pinata tu punyalah keras, bebudak tibai camana pun still tak pecah. Last-last, Bangah blasah ngan kayu golf mainan Haziq, baru jadik.

Here's the only casualty from the party hehehe, dan dibelakang tu is the bouncer yang blasah Nemo.

Muhammad Amir Danish, one year old, with a smile that never fails to melt my heart :-)

All in all, it was a great weekend, albeit tiring giler. But whatever the occasion, it's always good to gather dengan family members and spend some time together, kan?

BAD GIRLS LA PULAK?

Hmm... sebelum ni citer sal bad boys sekolah aku dulu, but they're not bad, they were just nakal and love pranks :-) btw adiejin, ada sekali some boys 'pinjam' telur rebus masa breakfast, depa gi conteng telur tu ngan marker pen, tulis namalah, entah apa-apa entah, pastu letak kat girls punya tempat makan... that prank was so cute and funny heheh :-)

Hmm... masa sekolah dulu my closest friend was Milly, my soul sis, and like I wrote earlier, we were budak baik nerds innocent banget gitu. But that don't mean we were saints hehehe.

Weekend outings to town dulu buat rotation, satu weekend boys satu weekend girls, probably nak elakkan bebudak keluar dating kot. But me & Milly always managed to keluar ikut sesuka hati kitorang. Gini, duit belanja akan dihantar oleh family by money order, so kalau nak tunaikan kena gi post office kat town.

So come weekends yang boys punya turn outing, we go see the warden and buat surat permohonan for unscheduled outing, which we'll have to give to the pak guard at the gate. Warden pun tak suspect apa-apa sebab kitorang ni budak baik, main sign je le (of course we made sure we saw different wardens all the time). There's never a shortage of money orders to cash, sebab Milly's parents were divorced and she gets pocket money from both of em. Sometimes we smuggled other friends out by adding their names to our list after the warden has signed the letter. But we stopped short of smuggling in cigarrettes for the boys, sorry ler yang terang2 break the law ni, tamau!

Masa tu, komputer quite baru (alamak tuanya aku!). Ada kelab komputer kat sekolah, tapi susah benar nak dapat turn guna komputer sebab students ramai. So we cooked up this thing about wanting to learn komputer from a shop in town, and warden pun benarkan aje. Hampeh, gi kedai tu, main komputer games hehehe. Managed to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, sebab kononnya 'kelas komputer' tu waktu petang selasa dan khamis, so we escaped sukan & ko-kurikulum (same timing) for that semester hehe :-)

Sukan pun, we didn't play netball and all that girly stuff, leceh sebab bola sebijik tapi ramai nak main, banyak buang masa tunggu turn dari bermain. So we persuaded our teacher to allow 'jogging' as a sports activity, and cikgu pun OK je. Iyelah berjogging tu, setakat jog sampai lepas gate sekolah je, pastu lepak makan laksa kat bawah pokok hehehe Pakcik jual laksa tu pun dah kenal kitorang kot.

Milly was a student librarian. We both love books, so she used to smuggle out the latest books for us to read kat hostel, best! Ada la jugak sekali-dua we feigned illness to escape prep malam, just so we could spend the time to read novels, instead of doing homework.

Pets weren't allowed in school, of course. But we were chummy with the abang lab (science lab staff) who lent us the keys to the rabbit house and the mouse house, where the animals were bred for lab use. Pastu kitorang gi dewan makan, cilok carrots ke apa ke, to feed the rabbits and play with em, syok! Later on in Form 5, the same abang labs tipped us on science practical exams... by leaving a window ajar in one of the labs, so that some of the boys could come later in the night and peek in to see the apparatus laid out for the next day's exam... oops!

Sunday mornings, we kidnap the newspapers and bawak lari ke classroom, where we could read in peace. Kalau baca kat hostel leceh, sementara baca front page, ada plak orang lain amik the other sections, sampai tengahari ler tunggu turn nak completekan baca the whole paper.

We had a Bilik Muzik dulu, where they kept the piano, and the band stuff, drum set, electric guitars, keyboard etc. Both of us had learned a little piano, so we goreng the music teacher that we wanted to practice piano. Cikgu pun terus je kasik kunci. Apa lagi, blasah la drum ngan guitars tu, saja berangan konon girl band hahaha :-) Tak sentuh pun piano.

Alamak, this looks bad hehehe, takde niat pun nak permainkan cikgu2 (we luv u, Ms. Nina!) Sikit tu jelah kenakalan kitorang, nakal sendiri-sendiri jenis yang tak kacau orang lain pun. But come to think of it, macam white collar crime la plak :-P Eh, but we turned out OK ye, law abiding citizens gitu!

BAD BOYS

Bad boys, bad boys
Whatcha gonna do
Whatcha gonna do
When they come for you

Teringat zaman sekolah dulu, boys paling femes selalunya bad boys la. Tapi bad boys zaman aku, sekadar nakal aje, bukannya jahat.

Me & my soul sis Milly, jenis yang nerd budak baik innocent banget pun, had our episodes of minat kat bad boys :-) Aku minat sorang senior homeroom aku, Lad, while Milly minat senior homeroom dia, Wedolloh. Tapi minat kitorang masa tu, minat dalam diam, no one else knew! Nak mampus? Kalau tau dek akak-akak senior tu, kena seligi la kitorang hehehe

Lad kena piat ngan ustaz sebab walking around the dorm in his underwear only *buang tebiat*.

Tangkap kucing pastu warnakan bulunya belang-belang ngan dakwat biru.

Sekadar gitu jelah kenakalan diorang, ni dah kira bad boys abis dah ni. Sejak bila anak-anak kita jadi perangai macam gangsta pulak ni ye?

Entahlah, mungkin perubahan zaman kot, banyak pengaruh luaran. Tapi yang menakal dulu tu, sekarang ni menjadik orang gak. Last I heard, Lad dah kawin anak berderet lima orang. Both Lad and Wedolloh amik engineering, and Lad is working in a multinational company.

I hope to goodness that those 15 kids will someday turn out okay *sigh*.

ADA APA DENGAN NAMA?

Nama sudah tentu penting pada kita, ia memberi sense of individuality, memberi kita identiti. Are you proud of your given name? So should you be, as I'm sure our parents were proud to choose those names for us. Dunnolah, aku belum berpengalaman, tapi jika aku nak beri nama pada anak yang baru dilahirkan, biarlah nama itu jadi suatu doa, bukan hentam keromo je. Nama tu biarlah significant, tapi significance ni very subjectivelah.

Generally most people feel good to hear their names on other people's lips. Mak aku has this to her advantage, sebab dia rajin tanya nama orang. Kalau kat pasar tani tu, dah kenal dah, Kak Norsiah jual sayur kampung, Kak Normah tokey kuih, Amir budak nasi lemak, Din jual daging, Ah Boy sayur import, Wak Ibrahim ikan kering, Masri tempe & tapai, Ripin jual pisang, ramai lagilah. Advantagenya tentulah dari segi layanan - kengkadang potong queue masa bayar, and diskaun kaw-kaw.

So what kalau nama tu buruk maksudnya bila ditranslate? This is the subjective significance bitlah. Personally as a muslim malay, I'd want a name yang baik dari segi bahasa keutamaan ugamaku, dan bahasa aku sendiri.

No hal la tu, selera masing-masing, but mesti letih, kan?

Pasal pangkal nama turun-temurun ni, aku fascinated ngan nama di Perak. Ada Megat, Puteri, Wan, Nik, Meor etc. Pastu ada formula plak, kalau Puteri kawin Wan, anak dia dapat pangkal nama apa... aku dah lupa la, anyone can enlighten me?

Ala-ala Tukimat + Zaleha = Tukizal gitu. OKlah tu, kreativiti. Tapi letihnya bila dah ada 5-6 anak, poning palo mikirkan kombinasi, especially kalu mak-ayah pun namanya pendek. Satu lagi trend ialah nama kombinasi eksotik, macam Siti Elizabeth Iman atau Mohd James Reza. Asal jangan tergeliat lidah menyebutnya udahlah...

And we all know berapa ramai rakyat yang lahir pada 31 Ogos yang dinamakan Merdeka :-)

Ada sorang kawan yang aku usik dulu, nama anaknya ada 4 perkataan (3 to 4 syllables each!), nama dia ada 3, so kalau nama penuh anaknya memanglah susah nak sebut dalam satu nafas. So aku tanya, hang panggil anak hang apa? Jawapan - 'baby'.

New baby? Just look around, nature can help name her :-) Lelaki plak kalau klasik tu, macam Wira ke Aduka ke.. uish... terbayang semuanya bersilat pakai tengkolok hehe Tapi kengkadang ada gak nama klasik yang kureng sket la, macam Hitam ke, Bacin ke, there must've been some reason why they were named so, huh?

Tapi kalau nak senang la, kasik je nama Melayu yang ringkas, macam kawan sekolah rendahku dulu, nama adik-beradik semuanya ringkas macam Liza, Amir, Aida. Sempoooiii.... Tapi parents kena hati-hati la guna nama ringkas, especially kalau ramai anak. Macam jiran di kampung tu, anak ke-11 diberi nama Aisyah, tapi dia lupa sebelum tu, anak ke-3 pun dia dah beri nama Aisyah gak. Last-last kena panggil 'Aisyah Besar' dan 'Aisyah Kecik' hehehe :-)

Nama aku? Nama aku bermaksud 'yang melihat'.. something like thatlah. Tak glam langsung hahaha :-D

WWF (not the wildlife thingy)

Came across this article about pro-wrestlers dying young the other day, in lieu of the murder-suicide case of Chris Benoit. In case you haven't the foggiest due to total disinterest in wrestling (hehehe), it's last month's bizarre case where a 40 y.o wrestler strangled his wife and smothered his child, then committed suicide, for reasons not fully known yet. But apparently his personal physician has been charged with improperly dispensing drugs.

Anyway, according to the article, aside from the odd accident or health-related deaths, most of the others involve drug abuse and intoxification. And no wonder too, since most of them will already have been on steroids for years and years just to get those bulging biceps and bulging everything lah. I guess there's just that much abuse that the body can take, before it (body and mind) begin to crumble. Sayangnya, such fine physical specimens *hmmm*

Actually, aku dah lama sangat tak follow wrestling ni. Dulu, menjangkit minat dari Abah, masa in the 1980s and early 1990s, aku tengok wrestling because it was still a fair sports. Masa tu tengok WWF (World Wrestling Federation) yang ada Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, The Rock (dia ni jadi pelakon lepas pencen wrestling kan?), Stone Cold, Mick Foley (mamat ni patah riuk dah satu badan, tapi tak serik dok bergasak lagi), Rick Flair, Junkyard Dog, Bret Hart to name a few. Aku minat ngan Ultimate Warrior, walaupun badan tak berapa besar, tapi the proportions cun dan dia punya 'comeback power' best betul heheh. Masa tu tau jugak la terms & nama positions and maneuvers wrestling, tapi now dah lupa ah.

Around mid 1990s aku dah hilang minat sebab tengok wrestling macam tengok teater. Kadang-kadang lebih banyak bercakap dari bermain (bergasak?). Game pun dah dibuat-buat, berlakon jatuh la, banyak drama! Masa ada DrLove tu lagi la aku nyampah tengok muka pink dia tu yang tak habis-habis nak provoke the good wrestlers. Lagipun masa tu aku kat uni, tengok tv kat common room, manalah nak ada geng tengok wrestling :-)

Rasanya around this time jugak they start to have female wrestlers and/or managers. I remember beautiful and soft Elizabeth, dia selalu accompany Macho Man, kalau tak silap, tapi lepas tu beralih cinta pada Lex Luger (eh betul ke ni? tak brapa sure). And Sherri... ha yang ni garang sket hehe. Tapi diorang ni macam accessories je la, sometimes jadik barang rebutan antara male wrestlers. Tulah, banyak drama dari sports, kan?

Masa tu, yang seronok tengok wrestling ni ngan arwah nenek aku, sebab dia punya running commentary spontan giler hehehe. She'll wince when someone gets hit, "adoiii!", and cheers the good guys on with "ha pukul dia.. ha..ha.. pukul..!" Alamak, dun get me wrong, she was a very sweet timid old lady, tapi kekadang over excited hehehe :-) Lagi satu yang aku rasa kelakar, bila yang menang tu badan bagak sangat ataupun jenis shape yang tak brapa ada pinggang, so bila dah menang Title Belt tu, tak muat pakai plak belt tu so sangkut kat bahu je hehehe.

Anyway, reading the article, baru aku perasan banyak nama yang aku familiar dulu tu, rupanya dah goal. Bam Bam Bigelow, Mr.Perfect, Big Boss Man, Hercules, Chris Adams, Yokozuna with his rambut jepun, Ravishing Rick Rude with his rotating hips (huhuhuuu), Owen Hart (nice guy), semuanya mati sebelum umur 50, mostly on drugs and alchohol.

I wonder what happened to the rest of 'em? About the only one yang paling gah is Jesse Ventura, who was elected as Governor of Minnesota some time back. Mungkin yang lain tu pun dah pencen, dan macam bapak aku, dok umah jaga cucu :-)

WHO'S AFRAID OF THEIR OWN GHOSTS?

Much has been said in the mainstream media lately, about this little previously unknown company - Cik Tos. Only two categories of people would give a hoot, one is the subscribers to their database, and the other is those who are actually IN the database. I bet the recent hullabaloo was created by those in the second category *chuckle*. Oh well, everyone's out to protect their own asses these days, and I don't mean donkeys, ya?

OK, there probably do exist cases of mistaken identities or wrong data entries, for which Cik Tos will have to answer to, since that would be their fault. But for the 99% of correct data, how come Cik Tos is still being blamed for it? The media has been slapping little Cik Tos's butt left and right, but never have they seeked comments from Cik Tos's subscribers, who are actually more to be blamed for the 'blacklist' thingy than Cik Tos herself. And there are plenty of subscribers, I tell yewwww. All keeping mum though *sigh*. Kesian Cik Tos, she has to fight a lonely battle.

OK, first things first. No, I don't work for Cik Tos, and neither am I getting anything from Cik Tos for saying what I'm gonna say. I am however, a subscriber. Ahah!

Fact - Cik Tos keeps a 'history' database, where it records public information including summons filed in courts. Now, history can neither be changed nor deleted, correct? It can however, be updated with current happenings, which by tomorrow will also become part of history.

Fact - Cik Tos acknowledges that her records are 'history' and is 'as at', meaning that it's correct as at the date mentioned or date entered. Anyone wanting to know more recent status, may contact the 'other side' as listed in Cik Tos's records.

Fact - Cik Tos never blacklists people in her database. The decision to blacklist comes from the subscriber themselves. If a potential customer, Mr.Pinjam, has a 7-page record of previous legal actions, he would be a notorious defaulter and I'd thank my lucky stars and Cik Tos for not letting me stupidly lose my money to Mr. Pinjam. Make sense for you?

Fact - Cik Tos gets a large chunk of info from their own subscribers, and it's up to the subscribers to choose which records they want to share with other subscribers. Similarly, Cik Tos will only know of any updates if the subscribers themselves tell Cik Tos. The exception to this fact is when Cik Tos scours the local dailies, and add in info they get from summons advertised as substitute service.

Fact - Cik Tos's datas are based on legal documents already filed, kenot simply-simply put anyone's name in there ha. Cik Tos is always willing to update her records, provided you furnish her with the correct documents. So what's the problem? If you have made a mistake (in defaulting your loan repayment) but you have now corrected your mistake, pegi update jelah.

At least Cik Tos's records are more accurate than some financial institutions who have their own database, for example Cik Meipeng. Anything they scour from the newspaper, they will keep in their database as 'under legal action' even if in fact it was only a notice and not an actual summons. *putus fius*

Yes, there are certain extreme repercussions, where a question of trust and credibility is important. For example I might not want to engage an accountant or a lawyer who has bad credit records even if it's all settled, because I wouldn't be sure if he's trustworthy. Cik Tos should look into making their datas 'unavailable' after a certain length of time that the problem has been settled. After all, Nabi pun ampunkan umat, dan Allah juga menerima taubat nasuha :-)

[ Amboi Jie, banyak komen...? Kau pasti nama kau takde dalam rekod Cik Tos? ]

Hmm... rasanya takde hehehe esok nak kena check nih :-)

TAGGED FOR CHARITY

This is so cool, and I'm happy to be a part of it.

I was tagged by Fauziah who was tagged by Ruby Ahmad, who was tagged by Raden Galoh, who was tagged by Idham.
